What video games have taught me about....me

So I just finished playing Fallout New Vegas and its dlc's, and I was thinking about decisions I made in that game and Fallout 3, and how the karma system in these games works.  At first I was really annoyed with the karma system because, after having played Skyrim, I definitely learned that I definitely will take anything that isn't nailed down- especially if it weighs nothing!  Does that translate into real life?  No, not really, but I think sometimes some of the things you do in video games DO translate into real life.  So, without further ado, here are some things video games have taught me about....me:

1-  I'm a pretty helpful person, even if that annoys me and takes me off quest;

2- I'm a sneak thief at heart;

3- I stick by my followers, (and friends), even the annoying ones;

4- I'd rather shoot you from afar than confront you directly;

5- Trusting others is hard to do;

6- No matter what, I will survive!

Ah concerts and video games...

I know these blog posts have been pretty sporadic lately, but I've been sucked into the world of gaming and making gamer videos, (you can check out my vids here), and the latest game to trap my world is Fallout 3.

Now, if you are a hard core gamer, you've probably already played the entire Fallout series, but Mom has not, and I can't even believe I haven't!  Seriously folks, this is a great open world apocalypse game from the great developers at Bethesda, who, some might know, are the makers of the best game ever- Skyrim.  Like Skyrim, I have pretty much spent every waking moment for the last 3 weeks playing, with a few breaks for work, and being dragged bodily out of my house to "socialize" with "friends", (lols and lols).

The latest "socializing" was a trip to Fiddler's Green to see the Foo Fighters!  I was so excited to get tickets for this as I am a big fan of them and....wait for it....waaaaaiiiit...Nirvana, go figure.  So, without further ado, here's some pics from the concert!

It was great fun!  In other news....there is none, so I'll be going until next time!

A Whole New World...

So today I've been thinking about the things I have been doing lately, and all the new stuff I'm learning about- in particular, making YouTube videos.  Not like, videos of me doing stupid stuff, but gamer videos.  Video game gamer videos.

This is pretty new to me, I started a YouTube channel a few years ago when Oldest was playing Fatal Frame 4, and I posted a grand total of 4 videos that I recorded with my camera aimed at the tv.  Not exactly hi-tech.

Fast forward to last year when I was playing Bethesda's epic, Skyrim.  Because the game is so long and involved, I started watching gamers on YouTube playing, and stumbled across a gamer who ran a series called Skyrim's Hidden Treasures, (shoutout to GV), and I enjoyed how he played and how he recorded so much that a little light bulb started burning in the back of my brain- maybe I could do this?

Fast forward to a few months ago, when Oldest bought an Elgato game capture, and started recording her own playthroughs.  I went up to visit her and made a guest appearance on her playthrough of Outlast, which started that light bulb burning again- this was so much fun, I want to do this!

Of course I thought it would cost a ton of money, and while it wasn't a horrible amount to spend, I ended up buying a new laptop, microphone, and the Elgato, and embarked on a journey to entertain gamers who like watching gamers.

At first, I started playing Fable, but 5 episodes in, I was bored with the game.  I had played it when it came out, and it was fun, but in the end it just seemed...short.  So I ditched Fable and decided to play through the first game since Guitar Hero that really captured my attention and held it: Skyrim.

Now, here's the thing about making video game videos- a lot of people are doing it.  A. Lot.  And if you think you're going to start making games and become another PewDiePie , think again.  So many people are doing this now that yo really have to have an angle to catch viewers and keep them.  And everyone has an angle.  EVERYONE.  What's my angle you ask?  Mom Plays.  Mom.  Plays.  Makes you think you're gonna watch some 60 year old fumble through a game in a hysterically old person way- yes?

Well, let me tell you, I will fumble through games sometimes, and I tend to run into walls and get startled by hostiles, but I also make jokes, cuss a lot, and in general have fun with my games.  I also like to back my gameplay up with lore if I know it, and general information that might help those who have never played the game before.

I'm on my 70 somethingth episode uploaded, but I've already recorded 140, and I am doing it because I love Skyrim, and I love putting something out there that makes people smile.

Keep on gaming everyone!

E3 Madness

So it's E3 week this week, and for the first time in about 6 years I decided to watch the fun, especially since I can watch with Oldest who is also a huge gamer.  I have to admit, I enjoyed the conferences a lot, with the exception of Nintendo.  I'm afraid I have to say WTH Nintendo?!  Get some games going!  My wii has been sitting unused since I played all the Lego games 2 years ago, there really is no other use for it right now.  Wish there was.

On the plus side, I was so excited by Bethesda's conference!  I don't usually play shooters, but I am sooooooooooo buying Fallout 4!  As a matter of fact I already have the Fallout Shelter app on my phone....but I have to confess I had to scrap my first vault....oops.  But it is cute and addictive.

And today I was really excited to see the trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3!!  It's been a long time coming, and I had so much fun playing the first two!

And while I was watching the Square Enix conference, Son in Law 1 was playing the Gears of War beta, so I got to see some of that gameplay, looks hard, but fun!

And if any of you guys are into small indie type games, I thought that Unravel looked like it was unique and intriguing, so that's also on my list.

So, pretty much my list of top games I want are:

- Unravel
- Assassin's Creed Syndicate
- Fallout 4
- Kingdom Hearts 3
- South Park: The Fractured But Whole
- Rise of the Tomb Raider

I'm thinking I have the next year planned in video games!

Started a YouTube channel...

Yes, ladies and gents, I have started a YouTube channel in the last couple of weeks...well, actually, I revived my YouTube channel.  See I started one like 4 years ago, or maybe it was 3, to post up some videos of my daughter playing Fatal Frame, a scary little video game that usually has her playing with a blanket over her head.  Well, I posted 4 videos and then life promptly got in the way, so that was that.

Until now.  I decided to start posting video of me playing games, and it's a blast!  I've picked Skyrim as my first game because I love it, and it's huge and fun!

I am a gamer…

So if anyone would like to head over to YouTube and check it out, either look for my channel Tonja Treece, or for Mom Plays Skyrim, and you can also follow me on twitter @TonjaTreece.

Until next time!

Bahaha...mine knows better than to ask me to do something when playing skyrim.

I'm back....again?

Just taking a minute to let everyone know that after a very long hiatus, I'm back!  I know it's been a long time, but I had some personal things that needed attending to.

In the meantime I'd like to also announce the beginning of my brand new YouTube channel featuring yours truly playing video games.  I call it "Mom Plays", and it's at Tonja Treece on YouTube.  You can also follow me on Twitter @TonjaTreece.

Now for a big announcement:  I have a new Granddaughter!!  Now I have one of each!

Yay!  I have to say she is as adorable as her brother!

I'm going to leave it there for now, but just know I'm back, and I'll probably being posting once a week like before.
